I'm Nothing

I’m nothing.

Ground that is Dry
“For you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
- Genesis 3:19b

“For you are a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away.”
- James 4:14b

Don’t put your trust in princes, each a son of man in whom there is no help. His spirit departs, and he returns to the earth. In that very day, his plans perish.”
- Psalm 146:3-4

Dear friends, I am nothing. I am no one special.
I am simply a man. A broken man seeking to follow Jesus and in daily need of His forgiveness and grace.
Yes, I am a saint, but I am a saint still working through this reality of being made more like my Jesus.

Anything good in me is from Him.
(Galatians 2:20) For there is nothing good in me personally. (Romans 3:10)

Friends, I am nothing.
As my team and I undertake two new film series, I see our inadequacy so clearly. And mine especially.

I have to wonder, do I truly understand the words of John the Baptist in
John 3:30. “He (Jesus) must increase, but I must decrease.”

How easy it is to want to think I am this high and mighty spiritual person, when the truth is, I am nothing apart from Jesus.
For apart from Him, I can do nothing of eternal value.
(John 15:5)

Yet, despite this fact, I am so quick to elevate others and myself.
Dear friends, it is all Jesus, all Jesus.
He alone is worthy to receive praise and honor. It all belongs to Him! (Revelation 4:11, 5:12)

My prayer is that as I go through life, I will refuse to proclaim my opinion or preferences. For indeed, I am nothing. The only solid ground to stand upon is the Word of God and the Word of God alone.
(Hebrews 4:12, John 17:17)

As we press forward in BOJF, we are honing in on just that, the Word of God. We are not here to proclaim our preferences or opinions, we are here to proclaim the pure, unadulterated and precious Word of God.

May God give us grace to proclaim His name and His name alone! May we raise high His banner and cast down the banner of self and opinion. May the flag of truth be unfurled! May we as the people of God cast down our pride and humbly throw ourselves at the feet of Almighty God! He is our Commander, our Great Captain and we have no other leader. Eyes on Him my brothers and sisters! Let us tune into His voice and His voice alone!

We are nothing, but He is everything. (Psalm 73:25-26)

Praise be to His name! He has taken us who have believed in Him and raised us up to the heavenly places and seated us with Christ as fellow heirs of the kingdom!
(Ephesians 2:4-7, Romans 8:17)

Yes, I am nothing on my own, but in Christ, I am a son of the one true King. I am redeemed and I have a purpose, purpose to proclaim His name and His truth. To carry the sacred words of the gospel to a lost and dying world. (2 Corinthians 5:20)

So my friend, shall we proclaim Him and Him alone to the glory of His name?

"For Jews ask for signs, Greeks seek after wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified; a stumbling block to Jews, and foolishness to Greeks, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God."
- 1 Corinthians 1:22-24
