Is God Still Working?

Living in this world is discouraging at times, is it not?

It seems like every day I wake up there is always more bad news waiting just around the corner to remind me of how this world is truly cursed with sin.
Just look at our nation and how God’s Word and standards continue to be marginalized and rejected. Our nation refuses to confirm the biblical realities of simple basics like the definition of marriage and gender anymore. Truth is seen as offensive, but if it is a lie, well, it is just someone living their own truth and should be tolerated, our culture says.

Is this not the reality of the world we are living in?

Isaiah 5:20 is so true in this society, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.”

At times, I believe we can all tend to ask the question, where is God in all of this? Is He still working?
Too often it seems I default to trying to reason with and encourage myself in truth. I can tend to forget the greatest resource I have to visit for encouragement and truth, the Word of God.

So what better place to find answers on this question than the Word of God!? The answer, there is none.

So instead of just writing my thoughts from the Word on this topic, I am going to let the Word speak verbatim to you.

Below are some of the verses and passages I found very assuring that yes, God is at work and yes, He is still in control! I challenge you, yes, read through these verses, but truly think about them. Don't just glaze through them, say "amen!" and move on. This is God's living Word as it applies to this topic! Drink it in! Enjoy it! Be reminded of truth and then go forth refreshed and strengthened to continue to fight this war!

“For the LORD Almighty has purposed, and who can thwart Him? His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back?” - Isaiah 14:27

"God is not human, that He should lie, not a human being, that He should change His mind. Does He speak and then not act? Does He promise and not fulfill?" - Numbers 23:19

"For the Lord, the Most High, is to be feared, a great King over all the earth. For God is the King of all the earth; sing praises with a psalm! God reigns over the nations; God sits on His holy throne." - Psalm 47:2, 7-8

"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10"

"He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.  He said to His disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” - Mark 4:39-40

“Do not be afraid of them; the Lord your God Himself will fight for you.” - Deuteronomy 3:22

“Then He placed His right hand on me and said: 'Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last.' ” - Revelation 1:17

"Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge, Surely the lowborn are but a breath, the highborn are but a lie. If weighed on a balance, they are nothing; together they are only a breath. Do not trust in extortion or put vain hope in stolen goods; though your riches increase, do not set your heart on them. One thing God has spoken, two things I have heard: 'Power belongs to You, God, and with You, Lord, is unfailing love'; and, 'You reward everyone according to what they have done.' " - Psalm 62:8-12

"Ascribe to the Lord, you heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name; worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness. The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord thunders over the mighty waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic. The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. He makes Lebanon leap like a calf, Sirion like a young wild ox. The voice of the Lord strikes with flashes of lightning. The voice of the Lord shakes the desert; the Lord shakes the Desert of Kadesh. The voice of the Lord twists the oaks and strips the forests bare. And in His temple all cry, 'Glory!' The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord is enthroned as King forever. The Lord gives strength to His people; the Lord blesses His people with peace." - Psalm 29

“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” - Revelation 22:13

"My Father is always at His work to this very day, and I too am working.” - John 5:17b

"Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." - Philippians 1:6

How often do I lose sight of that God is still sovereign and He is still on His throne? That nothing takes Him by surprise? That He is the same yesterday, today and forever? (Hebrews 13:8)

When times of discouragement come and be guaranteed they will, often multiple times a day, may we open up the Word and recall, God is always at work. His perfect plan has not been thwarted, delayed, slowed or stopped. It is still moving along in perfect sync with the timing He laid out before the creation of the world.

So may we press forward in that knowledge! Our God is in control! Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through Jesus Christ!

Onward in the encouragement and truth of our Lord!

"Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth." - John 17:17
