The Worth of Hell

I recently re-listened to a sermon on Hell and was extremely convicted again about the seriousness of the reality of this place.

So I dug back into some old writings of mine and pulled out this piece I wrote a while back, but never shared.
May we be reminded again of the worth of Hell!

Also, please note, the heart of this article is not a scare tactic, it is simply from the depths of a heart that is deeply concerned about the eternal destinies of eternal souls.

Blazing Fire

Yes, I agree with you. 'Tis a strange title for a blog post. Yet, allow me to clear up any confusion surrounding the naming of this post and help you understand what I mean.

Recently, I saw a billboard that said, “There is nothing on earth worth going to Hell for.”

Such a quote caught me off guard and I couldn’t help but mull over the statement as I continued my drive towards home.

To the one reading this who would not consider yourself a Christian, I must ask you a question. A question that is extremely blunt and to the point, but a question that must be asked. To not ask this question, I would have to be an uncaring, unfeeling, self-centered fool. I love you too much to remain silent.

If I may respectfully ask, what on earth is worth spending an eternity in Hell?  What sinful pleasure would be worth an endless eternity in a horrific place where the fire is never quenched? (Mark 9:44b)

To the one who would say you are a believer, I have a question for you as well. Yes, it too is very blunt, but to reiterate what I said above, to not ask this question, I would have to be an uncaring, unfeeling, self-centered fool.

First off, are you certain about your salvation? Are you really a Christian?

Quesiton on Chalkboard

Not everyone who says they are a believer will spend eternity in Heaven. Many will say to Jesus on judgment day, “Lord, Lord” and He will say He never knew them because they were never truly His disciples. (Matthew 25:44-46a)

Examine yourself, this is your eternity we are talking about! It is not a trivial thing! Don’t take it lightly. Be certain you are saved! (2 Corinthians 13:5)

Is Jesus truly Savior and Lord? (Romans 10:9, John 3:36)

I am not trying to get you to question your salvation by any means, I just desire that you be sure. It is so easy to deceive one's self and sadly, many are deceived when it comes to this.

To the believer who is certain they are saved and will spend eternity in Heaven, I have a blunt question for you as well.
What are you doing in the power of the Lord about the multitudes who are heading for a godless eternity in Hell? You are the light of the world. You are the salt of the earth. You are an ambassador of God. (Matthew 5:13-16, 1 Corinthians 5:20)
Don’t complain about unreached people, you are the one who has been given a call to reach them!
Now, I am not saying you need to travel around the world like an insane madman sharing the gospel with as many people as possible. No, I am going to ask you to do something even harder. Share Jesus with the people who are in your life right NOW.
Not the people you hope to reach, not those you might reach later, but rather the ones God has sovereignly placed in your life here and now.

Every single person you walk, drive, or run by is an eternal soul who will spend an eternity in either Heaven of Hell. It is easy to daydream about a large ministry opportunity or the perfect time to share the gospel, but it a whole another thing to reach out here and now to those in your life.

Now I know I addressed everyone very bluntly and perhaps I may have even sounded harsh.

Allow me to say my heart behind these statements is a heart full of Christ's love for me. I care about each and every one of you, even if we have never met. You are an eternal soul and have immense value because you are created in God’s image. (Genesis 1:27, Romans 5:8)

I don’t want to see anyone spend an eternity in the horrors of horrors of a place called Hell.

I desire to see the nonbeliever saved and the believer energized in proclaiming the gospel.

So I repeat my question once more, nonbeliever or supposed Christian, what are you waiting for? Eternity is right around the corner. You could be dead in the next hour or the next few minutes for that matter. Don’t ignore the call of Christ. You can be saved. Cry out in faith to Him today! (Romans 10:13)

Believer, what are you waiting for?! Eternal torment is a long time for the nonbeliever who dies in their sins. You know the cure! Share it! Share it! Share it! I know it can be terrifying to do so, yet do it anyways. God has not asked you to do this on your own power, He has given His Holy Spirit to empower you. (Luke 21:15, Ephesians 3:20-21) Lean into that power and proclaim the gospel from the rooftops! Or rather, start with those in your life right now. (Matthew 28:18-20)

Hell is real, whether we like the idea or not. Allow me to state clearly, nothing, absolutely nothing, in this world is worth spending eternity in Hell.

I beseech you, get right with the Lord today.

Believer, share the gospel today.

Time is so short, death, right around the corner and eternity, endless.

I know where I am spending eternity, do you?

“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead you will be saved.” - Romans 10:9
