The Word and the Word Alone

The Word and the Word alone, that is the desire of my heart.
Let's be honest, there are a lot of opinions out there. A LOT. The older I become, the more I see this vastness of opinions and ideas. Yet, there is one source, one place, one resource where I know I will get nothing but truth from its pages. It is the holy and eternal Word of God.
In the midst of this world of noise, His Word is spirit-calming balm. In the midst of the craziness, His Word brings peace. In the midst of lies, His Word is truth. In the midst of sin, His Word challenges us with a directive to be holy as our God is holy. In a world of moral relativism, the Word holds forth the absolute and eternal standards of Almighty God.
Here at Because of Jesus Films, you will notice a central theme in our two latest film series. The central theme is the Word of God. The Agent 316 Series highlights the absolute authority of God's Word and the answers it contains to life's greatest questions. The Word for Word Bible Series is straight Scripture.
Yes, there is a very intentional reason for this focus. I am fully convinced that the Word of God is what our culture and yes, our world needs. Apart from the application of the pure truth from the Word of God, this world is not going to get any better. Many say the Word of God isn't respected in our culture anymore. Therefore, we have to supplement our truth-sharing with other sources. How does the Word respond to such claims? "The Word of God is LIVING and ACTIVE, SHARPER than any DOUBLE-EDGED SWORD." - Hebrews 4:12a (emphasis mine)
It makes no difference if someone doesn't believe in a sword, a sword cuts and pierces just the same.
My fellow friends, I challenge you, I beg you, I beseech you, stand on the Word and the Word alone. Learn it, love it, live it! Memorize it!
There is SO much false doctrine and opinions of man out there. For me, it is frightening and disheartening to see. Therefore, allow me to challenge you another step further.
If you are a believer, you have the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of you. I trust Him to lead you and guide you into all truth. He is God and is more than able to work His truth in your heart.
So my challenge is this, read the Word and let HIM open your eyes to truth. Don't be quick to reach for the commentary, the spiritual help book, the devotional. For the Word is what changes lives, not a person's thoughts on it.
May this be the day we return to the Word and the Word alone, not our opinions, thoughts or preferences. May God strengthen us to stand firm on His truth and His truth alone!
Amen and amen!
